Difference Between Cut Sizes and Finished Sizes

Normally people go for tarps from different local retailers. However, after buying them, when the size of the tarp is actually measured, it is found that the size mentioned in packaging is different from the actual size. There is a reason for that. This is because different companies mention the cut sizes on their packaging, but the actual size of the tarp is 4 to 6 percent lesser than the mentioned size.

The cut size of the tarp is actually the total area of the material that has been used to make the tarp. While cutting the material the hems and seams are discarded since they are of no use. Once these parts are cut off, the size of the material reduces by about 4 to 6 percent or may be more in some cases. While cutting the workers are also unable to tell about the finished size because every finished product will have different sizes.

Usually this difference in size does not create much of a problem but if you require a tarp to cover something up, you may need a specific size which will be very difficult to find and sometimes very irritating in nature.

If we take up an example, in a packaged product if the cut size is mentioned as 5.6X7.6 then that is the final size which has been obtained after cutting the hems and seams of a 6X6 tarp material. Basically the cut tarpaulin sizes will always be larger than the finished sizes of the tarps.

However, there are some retailers who prefer to mention the exact size of the tarp on their packaging. For example, if it is mentioned as 6X6 on the packaging, it will be actually of 6X6 size once the tarp is opened and measured.

 

Customers sometimes end up paying extra since they don’t have an idea as to what the actual size of the tarp will be after it is opened. Thus, they need to have a clear idea of the size and should know about the differences between cut sizes and finished sizes of tarps before buying, to make the correct purchase decisions.
